APPRISE FREQUENT QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

 

WHAT IS APPRISE?  - APPRISE is a free health insurance counseling program designed to help Pennsylvanians with Medicare.

 

WHO SPONSORS APPRISE? - In Allegheny County, the APPRISE program is administered by Family Services of Western Pennsylvania in conjunction with the Allegheny County Area Agency on Aging and the Pennsylvania Department of Aging.

WHO CAN USE APPRISE? - APPRISE is available to all Pennsylvanians with Medicare.

 

IS THERE A FEE FOR APPRISE? - There is no fee for the APPRISE program for Pennsylvanians on Medicare.

 

WHAT TYPE OF INFORMATION WILL APPRISE GIVE ME? - APPRISE counselors can answer your questions about Medicare, Medicare Supplemental Insurance, Medicaid, Long-Term Care Insurance, and the new Medicare Prescription Drug Program (Medicare Part D).  

 

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE FOR COUNSELOR TO CONTACT ME? - Generally, an APPRISE counselor will get back to you within two (2) business days.

 

WILL APPRISE TELL ME WHICH INSURANCE IS BEST FOR ME? -APPRISE counselors are educators. In this role their primary job is to give you the critical information you need to make an informed choice about your Medicare insurance program. They are prohibited from choosing an insurance program for you.

 

CAN APPRISE HELP ME WITH THE NEW PRESCRIPTION PROGRAM MEDICARE PART D? - Absolutely! APPRISE counselors are able to provide you with a wealth of information to help you understand Medicare Part D.

 

WHO SHOULD I CALL IF I DO NOT LIVE IN ALLEGHENY COUNTY? -  If you live outside of Allegheny County, please call 1-800-783-7067 for information on the APPRISE program in your area.
