What is APPRISE?
APPRISE is a free health insurance counseling program
designed to help Pennsylvanians with Medicare.

Who sponsors
APPRISE?
In Allegheny County, the APPRISE program is administered
by Family Services of Western Pennsylvania in
conjunction with the Allegheny County Area Agency on
Aging and the Pennsylvania Department of Aging.

Who can use APPRISE?
APPRISE is available to all Pennsylvanians with
Medicare.
|
Is there a
fee for APPRISE?
There
is no fee for the APPRISE program for Pennsylvanians on
Medicare. |

What type of information will APPRISE give me?
APPRISE counselors can answer your questions about
Medicare, Medicare Supplemental Insurance, Medicaid,
Long-Term Care Insurance, and the new Medicare
Prescription Drug Program (Medicare Part D).

What are the qualification of the APPRISE counselor?
APPRISE counselors are volunteers who receive intensive
training to enable them to provide you with objective,
up-to-date information on Medicare. Many of our
volunteers worked in the health insurance field until
retirement. In addition, Family Services of Western
Pennsylvania has expert staff on hand to answer your
Medicare questions.

How long will it take for the counselor to get back to
me?
Generally, an APPRISE counselor will get back to you
within two (2) business days. |
Will APPRISE tell me which insurance program is best for
me?
APPRISE counselors are educators. In this role their
primary job is to give you the critical information you
need to make an informed choice about your Medicare
insurance program. They are prohibited from choosing an
insurance program for you. |

Can APPRISE help me with the new prescription drug
program - Medicare Park D?
Absolutely! APPRISE counselors are able to provide you
with a wealth of information to help you understand
Medicare Part D.
