Each year, thousands of children,
adults and families miss out on the brilliance and
spirit of the Holiday Season because of circumstances
beyond their control. The holidays can be an especially
tough time for children who may be separated from their
biological parents, coping with the impact of mental
illness on their family, or working through a traumatic
event such as a parent’s loss of a job or the death of a
loved one.
Winston Churchill one said that “We
make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what
we give.” Now is the
ideal time for you to step forth, to give of
yourself, and help spread the joy you experience during
this beautiful time of year with those in need. You can give of yourself in a number of ways:
* Organize a “Giving Tree” at your office,
organization or community group. We can provide gift
tags identifying the age, gender and three specific
wishes of an individual child. We can provide
anywhere from 1 to 70 tags. Every gift makes a
difference.
* “Adopt” a foster family. You identify the
characteristics of the family you’d like to adopt
(number of adults, children, ages, etc). We’ll
provide information on their holiday wishes. Some
adopters provide a gift for each child in the home
and a household gift for the adults. We have
families of all shapes and sizes.
* Donate a food basket as a family gift.
* Sponsoring our holiday parties with a direct
financial contribution. Sponsors will be listed on
the event program and banners.
- Holiday Host- $500
- Santa Sponsor - $300
- Holiday Sparkler - $150
- Stocking Stuffer - $50
* Make a donation specifically for adolescents and teens.
Gift cards allow our youth to pick out their own
music, clothing or items other teens may take for
granted. Cards from Target, Best Buy, Old Navy, The
Gap, Barnes and Noble, or like stores are popular.
* Assist us by volunteering to sort
and wrap the presents.
Volunteer shifts are available during
weekday, evening and weekend hours.
Call 412-661-1670 x649 to volunteer.
We’ll provide the snacks, holiday music and
warm, fuzzy feelings.
