Family Services provides more than thirty-eight different services to families and individuals in the region, including a wide range of clinical and general counseling for children, adults, and families as well as a variety of community based social services and specialized services provided in clinics, schools and community settings. Family Services provides programs for people with emotional problems, mental health, intellectual disabilities, or drug or alcohol problems, including: outpatient services; adult daily living education; crisis intervention; individual and family counseling; drug and alcohol counseling; and marital counseling. We also provide prevention services for those at risk of emotional, social, or substance abuse problems through several area school systems and at our community locations. We have programs for groups and individuals who may have unique or special needs including: transportation and emotional support for families of people who are in prison; intensive therapy for children with mental health and behavioral problems; outpatient (partial hospital) and residential programs; and day services for those with chronic mental illness designed to help people regain control of their lives. Our Ways to Work programs offers low interest loans for automobile purchase or repair. Supportive services for seniors are provided through our APPRISE and Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers (IVC) program. The IVC program helps the frail elderly in Allegheny County to maximize their independence and overcome isolation. APPRISE is a free health insurance counseling program for Pennsylvanians with Medicare which offers trained counselors to answer questions and provide objective, easy-to-understand information about Medicare, Medicare Supplemental Insurance, Medicaid, Long-Term Care Insurance, and the Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Benefit. As part of our mission we believe that everyone should be able to take their rightful place as a productive member of the work force. To make this possible, the agency provides vocational evaluations, rehabilitative training, work skills training, home and community skills education, job coaching and work supports to people with mental illness and/or mental retardation. Our supportive living services assist individuals to maximize self-determination, choice and control in their lives by providing: supervised living homes and apartments; in-home supports; home and community skill development; adult developmental training; supportive housing; and resource coordination. All of our services and supports are provided by caring, committed and highly trained staff representing a variety of professions and skill areas.
